A film about girls & women affected by FGM
- Winner of New York Festivals Gold Medal 2016
(in the Society and Social issues category)
Needlecraft is the first of three animated films on FGM released by FORWARD and award winning production company Animage Films.
Needlecraft, animated and co-directed by Oscar winning Daniel Greaves and award-winning filmmaker Ruth Beni, beautifully and yet strongly portrays the severity and complexity of FGM using an embroidery metaphor to communicate this sensitively.
The film combines different styles of animation to include stop-motion, live action, 3D and 2D. Hundreds of beautiful embroideries and other handcrafted assets were produced. The film was in production for 9 months.
